Adhd I was totally sure of. But upon official diagnosis seems there is also Autism (level 1) at play. Accompanied by ODD and depression, because being 15 and a complete turd half the time isn’t enough. This is my 4th child, (10 total) I am not a NEW parent. But very new to a complex mental dx teen girl with an attitude.
It’s been a fun start to the year. She lied about doing her English assignments for a full week. No idea what she was doing during that time when she swore, she was working. I do have multiple other children to keep on task daily so I can’t hover directly over a teenager. Especially when she sits and gives go to hell looks instead of working if you watch her directly while she works.
She is now spending the weekend catching up on all of those assignments. Thankfully the teacher of the English course is giving her until Sunday evening to turn them all in without a reduction of grade. I try so hard to never compare kids, but it’s hard not to want to pop her upside the head and be like, your little sister is in harder classes and has NO issues so like WTF child!!!
I mean obviously I am NOT going to do that but UGH its hard… The one thing that is truly difficult about homeschooling is being with the kids 24/7 365 and never throttling the ones that are little A******S sometimes. If ever there was a child who could drive someone to drink. But we are going to get caught up on this now and miss priss gets to show me very single item, every single night turned in, or we will be sitting up together watching her complete it EVERY SINGLE NIGHT.
Just know, if your teen too is driving you bat S**T crazy, you are not alone.
The adhd teen girl
Not fully sure if my daughter’s struggles are more ADHD or being 15? The lack of turning things in even when she finishes on time can probably be blamed on the ADHD. But, the trying to sneak onto social media or play a game when it’s school time, UGH that’s not ADHD at all… It’s strait up teenage butthead. She is my 4th out of 10, I’m not new to parenting. I am not even new to parenting teens, as the three above her are adults now. But there is no lie in the fact that a teen girl and a teen boy are simply NOT the same beast. She is my Achilles heel. She is a mirror of me as a teen, and OMFG I was…Well, I will keep this blog clean. On my personal blog, I can call it as it is, but this is a family page LOL.
She is going to absolutely HATE me this fall. She simply will not stay on her work if she thinks I can not see…. So, I am gonna see - the entire time until she is done for the day, we are gonna become joined at the hip. She will not be allowed to turn her screen out of my vision until the day’s work is complete, and phones will now be in a LOCKED cabinet until I see completed work each day. She is smart, she can finish in a very reasonable amount of time daily. But since becoming a teenager, she has stopped doing her best simply because she decided she shouldn’t have to. I am trying hard not to be ANYTHING like my parents. She is my one child who daily raises my blood pressure to near stroke levels.
I think holding in all the frustration to make sure I never explode in front of a kid is my entire blood pressure problem. My cardiologist (who has 8 children himself) once told me that even he needed blood pressure meds most of his life, but after his last kid left for college, his need for the medication moved on with them. As I deal with my teens and their journeys and the obstacles that arise, I will share. I’ll share your stories too, because if any of you find a SOLUTION to some of these teen drama issues, PLEASE do tell the class!!!
