Frequently Asked Questions

  • All students who live in the state of Arkansas and are eligible for public schooling in this state are eligible to sign up and participate in the Education Freedom Accounts. You must opt out full-time public education and choose private or homeschooling to receive the funding. You can still utilize some programs and part-time enrollment options in a public school as a homeschooler. These accounts provide funding for curricula, co-ops, co-curricular classes, extra-curricular (at a 25% of funding spending cap) and therapies and testing needed for special needs students.

  • There are online schools and virtual academies that are vendors and are in fact considered homeschool options.

Arkansas Virtual Academy and Arkansas Connections Academy are public charter schools and enrollment makes students ineligible for EFA funds.

Enrolling in those options makes students ineligible for funding as those are public schools online.

  • Each student enrolled for the 2025-2026 school year will receive $6,864 per school year. This is dispersed into your student’s CLASSWALLET account quarterly at $1,716 per deposit. If your child was formerly enrolled with a Succeed Scholarship they will be funded with EFA funding now in place of the Succeed Scholarship.

    Non-succeed students - $6,864 total; $1,716 quarterly

    Succeed students - $7,627 total; $1,906.75 quarterly

    The quarterly payments funding dates for the 2025-2026 school year are August 21st 2025 - October 28th 2025 - February 3rd 2026 - April 14th 2026

The 2026-2027 school year will see an increase in the funding amount.

These amounts represent the NET amount to the student after transaction fees, sop families can spend 100% of this amount next year:

    Non-Succeed - $7208 total: $1802 Quarterly

    Succeed - $8011 total: $2002.75 quarterly

  • To receive funding for the 2026-2027 school year, your student is required to take a standardized test in the spring of 2027. The state has a list of approved tests HERE.

This year the Atlas test will also be offered to homeschoolers but details on test sites are not yet available.

Spring is defined as a tests date between March 1, 2026 and May 31, 2026 for the current school year and Between March 1, 2027 and May 31st 2027 for the coming school year. Tests taken before March 1st will not be usable to fulfill the testing requirement. Tests taken AFTER May 31st are acceptable IF you can receive results in time for a June 30th submission deadline. This makes it possible to do certain online testing in early JUNE but no paper tests taken that late will have results ready on time.

Test scores must be submitted no later than June 30, 2026 via an upload sent to your email by the ADE office for this current school year.

We have test reviews on THIS page and will continue to add reviews as they are received to help with you test selection decision.

  • This one gets tricky. There will be items that are in stores in the Marketplace and in stores of businesses in direct pay that will not qualify for the program even though the company is a vendor. Not ALL items a vendor sells will be a qualifying item or expense.

There is not a good way for most vendors to separate what is approved in the state from other products simply. It’s slightly easier in direct pay for them to make a single page for AR - EFA but some of the store’s setups do not make that a simple project to accomplish.

A good rule of thumb when choosing to use reimbursement versus direct pay or marketplace is to ONLY buy what you can afford to spend if it is not approved. Or to keep items and the receipt just in case you need to return an item.

If a direct pay or marketplace order were to get rejected, you at least are out $0 and have no worries about how to manage the payment.

Do not be concerned if you need to reimburse for actual curriculum. All actual core subject curriculum is 100% reimbursable just be certain you are getting a proper receipt and its not even bad to make things even easier to upload your CC or bank statement sheet with it showing the payment clearing.

  • Yes, you can buy a student desk and chair, and you can buy a bookshelf for each student for storage of their books and supplies.

There is no exact set limit, but the ADE will NOT approve a matching office furniture set for your home.

Do not expect approval for something from Ashley Furniture or Pottery Barn. But the IKEA billy shelves ( and if you need all the storage possible, the stackable unit that makes it ceiling height) are very reasonably priced.

Many bookcases under $300 will more than hold your student’s needs. Same with desks, $300 and under would be considered a reasonable student desk. $100-$150 would be a reasonable chair.

The ADE acknowledges that having a set workspace is beneficial to students but in the same this program is here to help you EDUCATE your student not redecorate.

THE LIMIT IS ONE OF EACH PER STUDENT.

There can be exceptions in cases where real need can be shown but that will require approval.

  • The state added a policy allowing reimbursement for travel to and from approved classes, schools, extra-curriculars and tutoring services. This rate is reimbursed at $0.52 per mile. You need to document and submit a fully filled in accurate spreadsheet tracking your milage. You can use THIS page to see the rules for tracking and to download spreadsheet templates that have all of the requirements labeled already for you.

  • You can elect to split the cost of an expensive item that multiple children will share. Please do not split a $20 case of crayons between 10 children that’s a waste of everyone’s time. But there are times when its warranted. THIS page has a step by step on what to do.

  • If you used vouchers to private school last year and have now decided to homeschool, go into your FACTS account and change from private school to homeschool, then file a notice of intent online.

  • Memberships to Little Rock Zoo, and Museums in state and State Gardens are approved under extracurricular which means they are allowed but come out of 25% ($1716 max per year) allotment for Field Trips, Extra curriculars and any equipment or uniforms required for the extracurricular.

If you can buy a child only pass, then get that if you only have ONE child or get the family pass if it shows a break down per person (like museum of discovery) they will reimburse the children’s portions.

If you will use the family pass and the cost is of minimal difference or less than several students’ individual passes, they will approve the family pass.

ANY TIME a family pass is cheaper than getting the individual passes needed for your funded students, you can opt for the family pass.

When submitting a family pass that multiple students are using you will need to split the cost between your students.

To do this you will want to follow THESE instructions.

  • You can follow the instructions in THIS LINK.

  • This link gives details on what to submit to properly request a reimbursement. HERE‍ ‍

Then if you need instructions on actually submitting the reimbursement THIS LINK has details on doing that from a phone. And THIS LINK shows the process on a PC.

  • There are items prohibited in the program.

    • After school care

    • Lunch boxes

    • Paper Towels

    • Ziploc Bags

    • Wet Wipes

    • Televisions

    • Home theater or audio equipment

    • Game consoles

    • Smart Watches

    • Fit Bits

    • Alexa, Nest, Google Home devices

    • Cell phones

    • Lunch or other food fees

    • Caps, gowns, and other graduation expenses

    • Phone service fees

    • Internet service fees

These items are not reimbursable under any circumstances.

  • With revisions to the LEARNS Act, there are also new spending limits on some categories. You may spend no more than 25% of your annual disbursement on travel, and no more than 25% on extra-curriculars, PE, and field trips. We will have more information on all of this in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, please pay attention to the purchase categories in ClassWallet and make sure to select the correct one.

But for reference a Co-Curricular course will include Art, Music, Wood Working, Metal Working, Driving Courses, Cooking courses, Sewing Classes etc. Dance, Ballet

Extra curricular includes: Gymnastics, Karate, Jiu Jitsu, Taekwondo, Boxing, Tumbling, basically ALL your PE replacements. and Riding. TEAM sports are included in this category.

  • Technology purchases will no longer have a hard limit, but ADE will monitor spending in this category and will reach out if we need justification for technology purchases. Computers, tablets, printers, headphones, and all tech-related accessories will go into the same "technology" category. Please make sure to select that category for all technology purchases. Consider the age and grade of the child, and level of classes or lessons the child is taking when purchasing technology. NO kindergarten child needs a Mac Book but some 6th graders may be taking classes in robotics engineering while a 9th grader is in mostly the arts and writing. In that case the younger child may need more. NEITHER needs a computer over $1K.

In addition the policy does consider an e-reader or kindle as a tablet. Your Ipad or other tablet can download the kindle app and function as both a reader and tablet so that may be the better choice for most. But you can opt for a reader only you simply cannot get both.

  • Curriculum from ANY store of your choice is ALWAYS reimbursable. There are many options available through the classwallet market because obviously paying ahead and waiting for reimbursement is not an option every family has the means to utilize.

But if you have a preferred coursework that is not signed up with classwallet you are absolutely able to buy it and submit it for reimbursement. I personally order mine that way even though it is available in the Market because AOP if you order over the phone offers a 25% discount to active duty and veteran families. Many other companies offer the same.

This is an important part of this program. You have 100% freedom of choice when it comes to curriculum. No other state is giving this much freedom. It becomes a big factor for families who prefer a religious-based company. Many of those will not participate directly in any state programs. But if you can do reimbursement, that will not matter.

  • ClassWallet is well, let’s face it NOT super user friendly. But it’s workable if we utilize the search engine linked HERE and Use the vendor ads being added on THIS page. We CAN make this work!

There are also tutorials HERE to help you with how to use the class wallet system in general.

The bottom of the page here you are on has videos to help.

  • Your EFA funds can be used to purchase necessary EQUIPMENT to access internet services. The monthly or yearly internet fees are not a reimbursable expense. If you need help with internet service fees look into the Arkansas Affordable Connectivity Program.

  • It is possible to buy used items with EFA funding using the reimbursement option. There are specific rules and guidelines to follow ADE rules for reimbursement of USED items can be found HERE.

  • Ninety-Nine times out of One Hundred NO!

You can though use the pre-approval form to make a request for preapproval.

It is not necessary or helpful to use for direct pay or Marketplace purchases unless you are purchasing an item that the store carries that is NOT typical for school use. Otherwise, preapproval is to guarantee an item is acceptable in price and use BEFORE you pay out of pocket to wait for reimbursement.

The form can be found HERE.

  • There are many subscriptions that can be used for educational purposes, but not all meet the criteria for reimbursement. I have created a list of common ones and the ADE’s response on their ability to be reimbursed. This is reimbursement only items. Many subscription services are available in both direct pay and marketplace as well.

    TO THE LIST

  • Errors happen, accidentally submitted on the wrong child. No longer need the item ordered. Any number of reasons you may need to cancel a request. THIS LINK shows you how to do that.

  • Preapproval is not needed but curriculum or items being purchased through direct pay or marketplace that are typical educational items. But for reimbursement on items that are extraordinary or of a higher cost that you cannot risk not being approved you may want to look at sending in a preapproval request. THIS PAGE explains more.
